Introduction
In Sierra Leone, the Road transport authority was established in 1996 with the expressed mandate of initiating policies to establish a road traffic accident database, regulate drivers and vehicle standards and create a traffic warden corps to enhance road safety.
In 2005 the system of motorcycles being used for public service transport was adapted in              Bo, Kenema and Makeni as a means of enhancing transportation in these cities. The congestion in the central business district and narrow roads make the system appeared hazardous and irrespective of fact that commuters appreciate the service, because it facilitates their quick movement, rate of accident associated with this system is on the increase. 
Material and Method
The government has amended the existing traffic laws and has incorporated new ones such as the use of crash helmet by motorcycle users and restraint equipments by vehicle occupants (such as seatbelts etc).
The traffic wardens are also deployed at intersection points and zebra crossings to assist pedestrians cross safely.
Road safety dissemination has been improved through regular radio programmes sensitizing the public on the subject matter.
Results
The combined effort of the Police and Traffic Wardens is making significant gain in reducing the accident rate by constantly monitoring and restricting the in flow of motorcycles in the central business district of these cities.
Conclusion
In Sierra Leone, transport safety policies are crucial to reducing the incident of fatal road crashes. For example, prohibition of driving under the influence of alcohol, excessive speed, and so on.
