This study examines the prevalence of psychological dating violence between brazilian adolescents under gender perspective. Its part of a research conducted between 2007 and 2009, which examined various types of adolescents dating violence in ten cities of Brazil through an epidemiological survey of 3025 adolescents between 15 and 19 years. It was used the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI), cross adaptated to portuguese. Data were entered into Epidata 3.1 and converted to SPSS 15.0. It was made the description of absolute and relative frequency and variables intersections. Verbal violence has the highest prevalence (reported by 85% of adolescents). Of these, 96.9% are both victim and aggressor. The difference between sexes appears only in the item: "he/she spoke in a hostile tone of voice or nasty to me," more reported by girls (44.8%) than boys (35.1%). Among those who report some form of threat, 84.6% are at the same time, victims and aggressors. Trying to scare the other person on purpose showed greater occurrence between girls and it was the most common threat for both sexes (23.1%, girls and 16.4%, guys). Conclude that psychological violences high prevalence and simultaneity between aggression and victimization suggest a violent communication default among teenagers dating. Psychological violence often precedes other types of violence, and tends to co-occur with them. Its necessary to create strategies for identifying and preventing psychological violence that contribute to the formulation of public policies and other actions aimed at teenagers, increasing non-violent conflicts resolutions, impacting positively future affective-sexual relationships.
