Road safety is a major indicator of the development of a Country, as the number of safety measures/precautions taken by the authorities reflects the progressive thinking of the society and the authorities as well. In this context people with disability should be shown special care and adequate measures are to be taken to safeguard their lives when it comes to road safety. In a Country like India where basic safety measures are lacking, and the link between poverty and disability continues its vicious circle and people with disabilities suffer from exclusion in the formulation of road safety measures by the concerned authorities. A vast country like India with an ever increasing population and proportionate increase in the number of vehicles and traffic requires a dedicated approach to formulate safety measures with a compassionate and special emphasis towards people with disabilities.  But this is not so, I am presenting a case where in a poor beggar with a disability due to childhood polio died in a road traffic accident due to lack of safety measures in a Bus station in Mangalore India.
