Road safety audits in Mexico City a tool to improve road safety in vulnerable actors
Object: orient interventions to protect the vulnerable actors on the road (pedestrians, disabled people, adult mayor and cyclist) identifying physical environmental factors associates to injuries derived by the transit (IT) in Mexico City.
Methods and Materials: explorative and descriptive studies were made; the descriptive study was used to obtain accidental situation in the intersection, physical environmental conditions in the intersection, obstacles in the way, infrastructure for disabled people, measure and conditions of the sidewalks, asphalt conditions and vehicle speeds.     
Results: 102 intersections with high risk of accidents were detected, these intersections occurs more than 10 accidents per month; traffic accidents like runs over occurs in 75% of them; 70% of these intersection has not appropriative infrastructure to the pedestrian and 70% has not public lighting system; 90% of the sidewalks has obstacles like electrical cables, traveling salesmen, box phones, newspaper store; 83% has disabled people ramps but without connectivity between these; 63% of the studied avenues the vehicles passed through them at a speed of 70km/hr - 110 km/hr.
Conclusions: the road safety audits are realized in Mexico City since 2009 to prevent and analyze the injuries derived by the transit. The RSA results had been exposed to the workers of the government with the main purpose to orient them in the correct infrastructure implementation that reduces injuries derived by the transit and increase the security to protect the vulnerable actors on the road.
