Objective
The objective of this study was finding the relationship between sleeping and trauma occurrence in school-aged children of Tehran urban districts.
Method
In this retrospective study, the case-control method was used for comparing two groups of children with trauma and the ones without any experience of trauma that needs transference to health-care centers. A questionnaire about estimating the children's sleeping patterns habits was used through constant sampling for gathering the data.
Results
Those children faced trauma in comparison with the ones without experiencing it have the following problems: going to sleep late at nights, having less average sleep duration, having more night awakenings, and getting up earlier in the mornings. A considerable number of children with trauma (63%) sleep less than nine hours round-the-clock in comparison with those without trauma (36.5%). Those children with trauma face more sleep disturbance than those without it.
Conclusion
The results of this study showed that there is a relationship between trauma occurrence and sleep disturbance such as less sleep duration and being sleepy during a day in school-aged children.
