Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	Vietnam has a high rate of morbidity and mortality from intentional and unintentional injuries. According to the Ministry of Health, in 2008 Vietnam has over one million people suffered from different kinds of injuries, particularly road traffic injuries and postwar-related injuries. However, responses to injury prevention have not been sufficient in the country due to a number of reasons, including insufficient investment to solving the problem, lack of awareness and advocacy for policy changes, and the absence of research and data management. I have been working in the field of injury prevention for about ten years, both as a practitioner and researcher, mostly in disadvantaged places in Vietnam. I feel it is very necessary for Vietnam to share and learn the experience and knowledge in preventing injuries with the international community. My attendance at the conference will bring me a valuable opportunity to exchange related information with colleagues, to look for relevant research literature and topics and learn the best practices implemented in other countries. Similar to other developing countries, Vietnam is aiming for a rapid development and industrialization, which also generate many problems along the process, such as the increasing rate of injuries. The country needs alerting voices to critically assess the injury problems and to continue reminding decision-makers that the end cannot justify the means. My attendance at this conference therefore represents my continuing commitment in the field, and promises further contributions to improving the prevention of injuries and the promotion of safety in my country.
