Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	In September of 2008, I accepted a position as a Research Specialist at the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) in the Environmental and Injury Epidemiology and Toxicology Unit. My primary function is to design, coordinate and conduct moderately complex injury research studies using a series of injury surveillance data sets. In 1982, an injury program was established in the Bureau of Epidemiology and provided epidemiology and statistical services for child passenger safety (Safe Riders), safety seat inspections, bicycle helmet distributions, and older driver safety. However, in 1999 a department wide reorganization moved traffic safety. Currently there is no central program at TDSHS which is responsible for injury prevention. At this point in time, TDSHS is working towards developing a coordinated state wide injury prevention effort. I am eager to learn how to move from data manipulation to prevention programming. I feel I have determined the burden of injury in Texas, but have not been able to develop a plan of action, or identify the stakeholders that may provide outreach, support and education to the public. As we gain momentum and begin to become positioned to develop programs, I feel the additional education I will receive at the Safety 2010 World Conference will be invaluable. However, with limited travel funds, I humbly solicit your help. I would be grateful for the opportunity to experience this professional development so that I may better serve the citizens of Texas.
