Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	I'm currently a staff of the Federal Road Safety Commission, a lead road safety agency in Nigeria. The agency was established to eradicate carnage on Nigerian roads which is becoming a global burden. This however cannot be achieved without adequate man power development which is currently lacking due to under funding by the government. The functions of the Commission generally relates to: Making the highway safe for motorists and other road users. Recommending works and devices designed to eliminate or minimize accidents on the highways and advising the Federal and State Governments Educating motorists and members of the public on the importance of discipline on the highway. This scholarship programme is a welcome development and a rescuer to the problems of middle and low income economies like Nigeria. It will give us the opportunity to meet international icons on road safety and learn international best practices. The most interesting part is the mentoring programme which is long over due. What ever is learnt at the programme will be used in reducing death and injuries on Nigerian roads which kill men and women, young and old, nationals and foreigners alike. Measures are currently put in place towards tackling the problem of traffic crashes, but some work and most doesnt. This kind of forum will allow discussions and deliberations on why they dont work and allow participant to learn other tested strategies from other road safety agencies across the globe.
