Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	I am greatly looking forward to the safety conference, as it will give me an excellent opportunity to get to know professionals from around the world with varying levels of knowledge and expertise. The possibility to learn new techniques, to hear new strategies first-hand or novel approaches to modern injury epidemiology together with unique concepts of injury prevention is highly invaluable. As an assistant professor working at the Medical University in Poland, I will be able to implement the knowledge gained to train my students in subjects which are yet to be included in the text books that we currently use everyday. I am also interested in developing new research projects on injury prevention within the community, to better understand the complex phenomenon of sharps injuries which have till today, in my opinion, not been explored satisfactorily. I have been principal investigator and co-investigator of several research projects in Poland, and in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). I have also been piloting and evaluating new WHO curriculum on injury epidemiology and prevention (2005, UAE University). My main field of interest is research on epidemiology, surveillance and prevention of unintentional injuries among health care workers, with additional work on linking surveillance and research data for the prevention of sharps injuries at local, national and global levels. Due to economic constraints my attendance at the conference is in doubt without some form of financial support and I would be very grateful to be considered for a scholarship.
