Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	Our research group is leading the efforts to design an observatory of road safety for Colombia, a country with the fourth highest number of year losts in the region, only marginally above Bolivia, Brazil and Venezuela. This work is being currently conducted in collaboration with governmental institutions, private stakeholders, community and academics. Our plan and methods include a review of on-going observatories in the world as well as review of recent experiences and success cases of road-safety programs design and measurement. This conference would be a great scenario to strengthen our review efforts, and to establish direct contact with researches, practitioners, government members, among others with experience in surveillance design and implementation at a country and regional level. Through those direct contacts, we expect to incorporate to our review information and sources typically not available through journal databases as these are usually not published or kept as government reports only. Along with this, we expect to share our research work on methods for on-the-street assessment of road user behavior. Our work has been thought to be useful, particularly in developing countries where resources are limited, to undertand pedestrian motivations when taking risks on the streets, and their interaction with infrastructure. Lastly, at a personal level, as an assistant professor of injury prevention, I would like to take an opportunity to update information on a broad range of topics that I include in my classes at the undergraduate and graduate level, including occupational safety.
