Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	In the last three years that I have been working in Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), its become clear to me that safety must rank top of our priorities; over 33% of all patients were admitted with fractures, and of these 89% had a clear correlation to flaunting road safety/traffic protocols. Over the last three months, I have actively been involved in the reformation efforts of the MTRH accident and emergency team, and the occupational medicine caucus. We have engaged the local town council in efforts to better structure transportation and traffic control and to accommodate the flourishing motorcycle industry. Theres no proper database to drive informed choices regarding safety-promoting endeavors; we are now making efforts towards better data collection and develop sustainable surveillance systems locally in collaboration with the town council. Working with the District Data-managers, I am charged with coordination of surveillance and data generation for evidence-based action and lobbying. I have recently taken part in the first lobby team to the Ministries of Public Transport, Roads & Public Works, and Public Health to communicate local findings and propositions to better public safety in our populated towns. All these are modest efforts given the existing glaring need locally. More can be done if the team members sustain their interest, and increase their knowledge and skills for efficiency and resourcefulness. I want to learn more, to be better. And, I am sure participation in this conference will enhance both my interest and commitment to this cause.
