Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	Before replying to the request of how attendance would help improve the prevention of injury and safety in my locality, I beg you indulgance while I present a little background regarding my request for financial support. Institutions of higher education throughout the State of California are facing an unparalled budget deficit during the next two years. The California State University (CSU) system has been mandated to face this deficit by implimenting unprecidented financial cuts including mandatory unpaid days off, resulting in a nearly 10% salary reduction for teaching personnel. As if this was not sufficient departments such as ours have no funding for professional dvelopment, travel or suppliments of any type. As the Coordinator for Internships I am responsible for placing over 100 students per semester in external sites that will facilitate experential learning. These sites include law enforcement agencies, battered women's shelters, law offices, courts, juvenile detention facilities and, where applicable, first responder organizations such as fire departments, paramedics and hospitals. Attendance at this conference would allow me to gain additional understanding, from a world perspective, on the issues facing others. In tern, by using the information to alter and suppliment existing curriculum, I can contribute to both the students and institutions in which they serve their internships, as well as classes that I teach (which includes one on Ethics). A decade of "hands on" experience in public and institutional safety, prior to teaching, would allow me to be a strong conference contributor. I apreciate your consideration. you.
