Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	As an academic in public health and a researcher in work-related injuries, but also a PhD candidate doing a dissertation research on "use of data linkages to estimate severe traumatic work-realted injuries in Tanzania", I hope to benefit a lot through attendance to the Safety 2010 Conference. In my on-going research, we are focusing on the use of data linkages between patients interviews data, hospital admission data, workers compensation data and Police data to estimate severe traumatic work-related injuries in Tanzania. In a period of 12 months (March 2007 - March 2008) 1,385 injury cases admitted in the largest trauma hospital in Tanzania following severe traumatic injury were interviewed. During interviews with patients 500 cases out of 1,385 were identified as work-related. After linking with hospital records 138 more cases were identified as work-related. In total 638 cases (46%) as work-related. Road traffic accidents are the leading cause of work-related injuries in Tanzania, making road safety an important aspect of worker safety. The next stage of my research is further linkage of Police, Hospital and Workers Compensation data (which since 2008 includes commuting accidents), with the aim of developing an improved injury surveillance system for Tanzania. I hope to learn from conference presentations on working interventions in injury prevention and promotion of road traffic safety in developing countries.
