How to apply for a visa?
The UK Border Agency has established ‘Visa Application Centres’ in many countries. Details of your nearest centre can be found at www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/wheretoapply. These centres deal with all visa enquiries and applications. In some cases, an initial application and payment can be made online. Where this is possible, there is also an electronic appointment booking system. You will need to attend the ‘Visa Application Centre’ to present your passport, provide other required documentation, and make payments.

What will I need to make my application?
The list below indicates what will normally be required but please check with your local ‘Visa Application Centre’, as some details may vary. In general, however, you will require:

  • Your passport or travel document
  • A recent passport-sized (45mm x 35mm), colour photograph of yourself. This should be taken against a light coloured background, clear and of good quality, not framed or backed, printed on normal photographic paper, and full face (without sunglasses, hats or other head covering unless you wear this for cultural or religious reasons)
  • The visa fee (which cannot be refunded and must normally be paid in the local currency)
  • Supporting documents relevant to your application.

In many cases, you may also be required to provide ‘biometric’ data such as finger scans and a digital photograph. You should make sure that you do not have any decoration (such as henna), or any cuts or other markings on your fingers before having them scanned.

How much will the visa cost?
According to the UK Border Agency, the current fee for a Business Visitor (including those attending a conference) is £67.00 per application. For more information, please visit www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/visafees.

How long will the process take?
You are strongly advised to apply for your visa as early as you can. Times can vary for the processing of applications – please see www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/processingtimes for more information.

Supporting Documents / Visa Letters
Once you have registered and paid for your conference registration online, you will be issued with an electronic confirmation that you will be attending the conference. This should assist you in your application for a UK visa, but you may also be required to provide evidence that you have travel to and from the UK already booked (such as your flight tickets).

If required, the Safety 2010 World Conference organisers can provide a further ‘Letter of Invitation’ to support your visa application and confirm your attendance. If you require this document, please send an email to [email protected] containing the following information:

  • Your conference conference registration date:
  • Your name as it appears in your Passport:
  • Passport number
  • Place of issue
  • Date of issue
  • Date of expiry
  • Occupation
  • Employer or sponsoring organisation

We will deal with your request as soon as we can, but please ensure that you leave plenty of time to enable the visa application process to be completed.
